  • Anglais The last duel

    Eric Jager

Now a major motion picture directed by Ridley Scott starring Matt Damon, Adam Driver and Jodie Comer. In 1386, a few days after Christmas, a massive crowd gathered at a Paris monastery to watch two men fight a duel to the death. A trial by combat to prove which man''s cause was right in God''s sight. The dramatic story of the knight, the squire and the lady unfolds during the tumultuous fourteenth century. A time of war, plague and anarchy, as well as of honour, chivalry, and courtly love. The notorious quarrel appears in many histories of France, but no writer has recounted it in full, until now. _______________________________________________________________ ''Succeeds brilliantly in combining page-turning intensity with eye-opening insights'' Sunday Times ''Suspenseful and well written'' Spectator

  • Le nouveau titre des auteurs du best seller How to be Parisian, qui explorent l'amour, la vie et bien d'autres thèmes encore à l'arrivée de la quarantaine !

  • Relaxed, flexible home cooking from Yotam Ottolenghi and his superteam. Whether they''re conjuring up new recipes or cooking for themselves at home, the Ottolenghi Test Kitchen team do what we all do: they raid their kitchens. But then, they turn whatever they find into approachable creations with an ''Ottolenghi'' twist. This instinct is in perfect sync with recent times, when we''ve all been standing in front of our kitchen shelves, our cupboards and our fridges, wondering what to cook with what we''ve got; how to put a can of chickpeas or a bag of frozen peas to good use, instead of taking an extra trip to the shops. For the first time, the team welcome us into their creative space. These dishes pack all the punch and edge we expect from Ottolenghi, but offer more flexibility to make them our own, using what we''ve got to hand. There''s the ultimate guide to creamy dreamy hummus, a one-pan route to confit tandoori chickpeas and a tomato salad that rules them all. This book is all about feeding ourselves and our families with less stress and less fuss, but with all the ''wow'' of an Ottolenghi meal. It''s a notebook to scribble on and add to, to take its ethos and absolutely make it your own. This is how to cook, the OTK way.

  • A beautifully crafted graphic novel adaptation of Harper Lee's beloved American classic, voted the #1 Great American Read 2018.

'Shoot all the bluejays you want, if you can hit 'em, but remember it's a sin to kill a mockingbird.' A haunting portrait of race and class, innocence and injustice, hypocrisy and heroism, tradition and transformation in the Deep South of the 1930s, Harper Lee's To Kill a Mockingbird remains as important today as it was upon its initial publication in 1960, during the turbulent years of the Civil Rights movement.

Now, this most beloved and acclaimed novel is reborn for a new age as a gorgeous graphic novel. Scout, Jem, Boo Radley, Atticus Finch and the small town of Maycomb, Alabama, are all captured in vivid and moving illustrations by artist Fred Fordham.

Enduring in vision, Harper Lee's timeless novel illuminates the complexities of human nature and the depths of the human heart with humour, unwavering honesty and a tender, nostalgic beauty. Lifetime admirers and new readers alike will be touched by this special visual edition.

  • The veteran war photographer [Don McCullin] has turned his lens to more peaceful scenes... for his latest book, The Landscape. The images carry a dramatic feel and a preference for stormy skies that reveal an intimacy with conflict and destruction.' Guardian After a career spanning sixty years, Sir Don McCullin, once a witness to conflict across the globe, has become one of the great landscape photographers of our time. McCullin's pastoral view is far from idyllic. Though the woods and stream close to his house in Somerset have offered some respite, he has not sought out the quiet corners of rural England. He is drawn, instead, to the drama of approaching storms. He has an acute sense of how the emptiness of his immediate landscape echoes a wider tone of disquiet.

McCullin is based in the geographical centre of southern England. The presence of sacred mounds, hill forts, ancient roads and the nearby monuments of the prehistoric era have shaped his sense of nationhood. But down on the Somerset Levels, he has tramped through the flooded lowlands. The imagery of his home county, ravaged by storms, inevitably projects the associations of a battlefield, or, at least, the views of one intimate with scenes of war.

He is not alone in his preference for darkened clouds over clear skies. McCullin's West Country is not far removed from the East Anglia of Constable's Dedham Vale two centuries earlier. His knowledge of his historical predecessors places him deep in a Romantic tradition. His experience as a traveller reinforces the sense of a man on the edge of civilisation under siege. Nowhere is this more apparent than in his repeated views of the glories of Palmyra and of the destruction of this ancient Syrian city.

The Landscape is the last in a long series of books published by Jonathan Cape, which encompasses the entirety of McCullin's working life.

  • Anglais Be more keanu

    King James

The last few years have marked a 'Keanaissance'. Keanu has inspired countless memes from as far back as 2010 when the internet shed a tear about 'Sad Keanu' sitting alone on a park bench eating a sandwich, and pronounced 15th June official 'Cheer Up Keanu' day. 2019 has brought more joy with a video of Keanu with puppies alongside other uplifting sightings.

In this illustrated black and white tillpoint gift and humour book Radio 2 film critic James King shows us what makes Keanu so special. Alongside quotes, jokes and illustrations, each chapter looks at different iterations of Keanu, for example, The Friend, The Pioneer, The Rockstar and The Guru. We get inside Keanu's questing spirit: what friendship means in Bill and Ted; communing with nature in Point Break; and, in the Matrix, tearing through dimensionality itself.

And IRL Keanu's a free spirit too. He travels without minders, he's always doing random acts of kindness, he takes pay cuts to support his crew, and he actually respects women in Hollywood. Plus he's never happier than when riding his motorbike through the desert thinking deep thoughts.

We would all do well to #BeMoreKeanu.

Murphy répond à ces questions par ses découvertes troublantes, offrant un portrait saisissant d'un artiste qui se dirige vers la folie dans sa quête de l'excellence.
